The Domaine de la Monardière was founded in 1987 by Martine and
Christian Vache. Both in love with vineyards and wine, Martine and Christian took
over the family property and began a long programme of restructuring the
vineyards, building the cellar and preparing for the distribution and
sale of their wine. At present, the estate has 50 acres of vineyards;
its wines are sold directly by the Domaine, both in France and for
exportation.
The Domaine is located in Vacqueyras, a small Provencal village in north Vaucluse (see map). It is situated at the foot of a craggy series of limestone formations with lace-like crests that give them their famous name, the Dentelles de Montmirail.
In 1990, Vacqueyras was promoted from a Cotes-du-Rhone-Village to the rank of Cru, with its own appellation joining its neighbours Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
Vacqueyras is one of the few appellations in France that are permitted to produce all three types of wine: red, white and rosé, although the reds predominate.

For several years, our philosophy has been quite straightforward. We
strive to produce expressive, full-bodied wines that are representative of
our terroir, of our contribution to the winemaking process and of the
vintage. Our very old vines are carefully maintained, and our approach
is based on natural cultivation, with as little man-made intervention as
possible. All this allows us to offer you authentic wines that are
faithful to, and characteristic of, their origin.
